It seems that white clubheads are everywhere all of the sudden.
From high-end drivers to designer putters, white clubs are showing up on all the tours and in pro shops across the country.
But you don't have to spend a lot of green to get in on this white revolution. Hireko Golf -- parent company of Acer, Dynacraft and other component companies -- has developed the Bionik line of putters.
The Bionik Nano White 101 (traditional blade) and 105 (semi-mallet) putters have all the bells and whistles of higher-priced flatsticks but can be had custom-assembled for just less than $30.
The logic behind white clubheads is that they are easier to focus on and, in the case of putters, easier to line up. Both Bionik putters have soft, precision-milled, metal-face insert set into the white, zinc putter head. Both are also available with Apollo shafts, which are known for their excellent feel and quality.
In order to take full advantage of these solid, value-priced putters, though, you need to get the ball onto the green. If chipping is a problem area in your game, consider trying the Acer XK Flipper chipper, which is also around $30.
The XK Flipper combines the loft of an 8-iron with the weight and length of a mallet putter. The idea is that all you need to do to get a ball from the rough or fringe onto the green is to set up as if it were a putt, take a putting stroke and voila! You're dancing.
If you haven't used a chipper before, the XK Flipper might take some getting used to, as it's tricky to get yourself to take a real putting stroke in longer grass. But once you do, it becomes pretty routine. And for any player who struggles to hit down on short chips around the green, the XK Flipper is well worth a try.
Between the Flipper and the Nano White putter, you could revamp your short game for less than the cost of dinner and drinks in the clubhouse grill.
